Prince Johann Adam I of Liechtenstein acquired the county of Vaduz in 1712. Herawingert vineyard has been owned by the Princely House ever since.

The Herawingert with its 4 hectares of uninterrupted vines is the most traditional and significant vineyard in the Principality of Liechtenstein, and is one of the best vineyards in the Rhine Valley. Its south-west location, the mild foehn climate and the good quality of soil offer ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The “Hofkellerei”, the winery of the Princely Court, has cultivated the Abtswingert below the Red House since 1997. The vineyard is named after Abbot (“Abt” in German) Johannes V who conducted the purchase negotiations to sell the property to the Benedictine monastery St. Johann in the Thur Valley in 1525.
